1. Q: Ultimate Encoder does not detect my CD-ROM drive, what should I do ?

A:  Probably you don't have the WINASPI driver installed or the version you have is an older version which does not support your CD-ROM drive, you can download the latest WINASPI driver from Adaptec  http://www.adaptec.com/worldwide/support/driverdetail.html?filekey=aspi32.exe or free ASPI from http://www.geocities.com/aspi_driver/  and install it. It works in Windows 98, ME, Win2000 and WinXP. After installation restart Windows and try to run Ultimate Encoder, now it should recognize your CD-ROM drive.  (note: Ultimate Encoder 2004 can work without the winaspi driver in Windows 2000 and XP)

2. Q: I have installed the latest WINASPI driver, why Ultimate Encoder still not recognize my CD-ROM drive?

A:   If you have a SCSI CD-ROM drive, try to use Ultimate Encoder on a IDE CD-ROM, some SCSI CD-ROM drives are not supported by Ultimate Encoder, due to command differences between each manufacturer.
If you have an IDE/ATAPI CD-ROM drive which is not recognized by Ultimate Encoder, the only choice is to use a different CD-ROM drive or use an alternative freeware cd grabber to read audio data from CD then encode the WAV files with Ultimate Encoder.

3. Q: Why UE 2002 shows an error about ODBC32.dll then exits?

A:   This problem was corrected  in Ultimate Encoder 2004 v4.10a.

4. Q: Why Ultimate Encoder can't encode my WAV file ?

A:   Make sure that the WAV file you are trying to encode is a Windows PCM WAVE, 16-bit, Stereo, 44KHz file.  If you want to encode a mono WAV file then you need to select the mono option in Ultimate Encoder options dialog.
NOTE: Try to not use too long path names, in some situations Ultimate Encoder can't open files with too long path names.

5. Q: Why the MP3 files produced by Ultimate Encoder sounds better than the MP3 files produced by other encoders ?

A:   Because we optimized the encoding engine without skiping any sound filters.  Other encoders skips many sound filters in order to get higher encoding speeds, but they produce noisy MP3 files which have too much high frequencies.  We are for quality, not for encoding speed.

6. Q: Which encoding bitrate is best to use ?

A:   For a good music/sound quality we recommend using 160kbps or more.  If you want to encode voice it's best to use 128kbps or less, with mono WAV files.

7. Q: I can't decode some MP3 files, why?

A:   Make sure that the file you are trying to decode is a standard MP3 file. MP3 files with Variable Bitrate are not supported by Ultimate Encoder.
